Vietcong is a 2003 tactical first-person shooter video game developed by Pterodon and 2K Czech, published by Gathering of Developers. It is set during the Vietnam War in 1967.
The expansion pack Vietcong: Fist Alpha was released in 2004 and was bundled with Vietcong as Vietcong: Purple Haze for the PC. Vietcong: Purple Haze was also released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, ported by Coyote Games. An official add-on “Red Dawn” was released as a free downloadable content. A sequel to the game, Vietcong 2, was released in 2005.
The player takes on the role of Sergeant First Class Steve R. Hawkins, assigned to the United States Special Forces (“Green Berets”) camp at a strategic location of Nui Pek in South Vietnam, a few miles near the Cambodian border. Hawkins and his A-Team (an LLDB guide Le Duy Nhut, the medic Joe Crocker, the demolition specialist Thomas Bronson, the radioman C.J. Defort and the team’s machine gunner Hornster) carry out a series of various missions against the Vietcong and North Vietnamese forces. The game ends in a massive North Vietnamese attack on the team’s base camp.

How is the story bad? It's almost documentary style, teaching you about the Vietnam war and loads of intricacies, the Montagnard troops etc. What kind of story would have been interesting to you that wouldn't be fucking stupid in a realistic shooter?
I think they should make more Vietnam games
hey everyone i made a petition in the hope they wil publish the vietcong game series on the steam platform. Mind checking out? here is the link: http://chng.it/kfNB5TLCt2
Im Czech, and this game is an awesome cult classic. I love it.
This game was amazing for its time
Do Men of Valor
Is this on x box
How to dowload it digitally
This had some of the best multiplayer for the time, especially Capture The Flag. Aim-down-sights was standard and necessary — A newer development in the early 2000s. The weapons all kicked like mules in both directions. The maps had great flow, and the jungle environments made each match play differently. The devs even WENT to Vietnam to make their photorealistic textures of the environment — including the Cu Chi Tunnels. There was one map in an old temple ruin that acted as the "de_dust" meatgrinder everyone wanted at the time, but even IT had great routes for sniping or flanking. I spent countless hours in this game, sometimes just spooling up the main menu to hear the "Pseudo-Hendrix" theme by Rude Kostry.
ahh man the memories
Hey gman this game was built in a time where things looked really blocky. Don't talk shit about my childhood games.
RIP all you want on vietcong 2 but one you leave be. You fucking poes
The thing is, patch v1.60, which you played on, messes up the AI making it more "all-seeing" and "headshot heavy" – the same way as it is in the expansion Fist Alpha. Older versions are much more enjoyable in that redgard.
This game was amazing even tho my ping sucked ! (and so did the sound of the M60) also there wasnt many good multiplayer maps
Lol when did conflict Vietnam come out that game was amazing recommend if you like this one. I played both
VC1 was wayyyy better than Far Cry 1. Yes graphics were meh, but everythig else was superb.
i remember playing a demo of this that came with my copy of max payne. my pc would barely run it and i kept running into trip mines
Incredible attention to detail. Well….except for that slide mounted safety on a 1911 and the fact the developer failed to understand how sights work when creating the iron sight part of the game. By which I mean they completely ignored the rear sight on all the weapons.
Why is the Ppsh in the Vietnam war?
Never mind, I looked it up. It was used as far as 1970 in the Vietnam war, for the Vietcong.
It is still played 03.2020. There are a dozen servers to choose from alone in coop mode,
about 67 servers at the very moment. You can get the game easy from the web, It runs on
windows 7 and windows 10 i believe thanks to vietcong starter. Since the master gamespy
server went tits up for good you can edit the hosts file lookup https://vietcong1.eu/en/game/
how to (46.28.109.117 master.gamespy.com). Vietcong 4 ever 🙂
The game is worth it just for the menu music.
People want everything to be like call of duty endless waves of enemies if you don't move that's dull and its the just the same game since the original one Vietcong is tactical you cant run through it and spray and pray it can be very hard you have to be smart its very realistic this guy criticizes the graphics it was released in 2003 on a low budget its not going to look like nowadays games damn idk why it pissed me off so bad this game is best for nostalgic people ones who appreciate real sacrifices made in Vietnam and not spoiled kids Far Cry is by far different than Vietcong not to mention Far Cry had a bigger budget dumb fuck
Charlie Don't Surf!!!!!😜
This game is so under rated its not even funny. That night swamp level though, holy shit that drove 13 year old me insane.
Wow, the characters literally look like fried chicken, great graphics engine
About the graphics comparing it to Far Cry. Far Cry had great high poly models. And great textures. But again this game had more abundant foliage. And Far Cry was years ahead of competition.
This game did a great job for its time to bring a real jungle to life. No other game did this really that successful as this game did. With indeed the ambient sound effects and the well laid out maps it was a great game. And too bad that Pterodon has ceased development of the series.
Was this the game that had that weird zombie Easter egg? I’ve been looking for this game for soo long
This game looks way better then it has any right to be.
Somebody remaster this game! This game was way ahead of its time.
Holy shit I use to love this game it was awesome
I remember this game… Good shit !!
YouTube algorithms brought me here
Man…I remember playing this game in college when I built my first gaming PC and getting my first set of 2.1 speakers. One night, guy next door came and asked me (nicely) to turn my game down. I was like…"this game is awesome". Yeah it came out in 2003, I just dated myself. This game also sticks out in my memory because it's how I learned to read a topographic map, if you fucked it up you ended up calling in an artillery strike on your own position – as there was no marker on the map indicating your current position.
The graphics in this game is soooo good and the wepons soooo realistic
Used to love this game. Great atmosphere.
This game introduced me to the greatest guitar riff of all time, pseudohendrix.
